These are really beautiful, you're right the light was special.

I've got a question. I noticed that you only use high ISO ratings. Is that a deliberate choice or an automatic camera setting? And if it's deliberate, why do you like the higher ISOs? I've been using only ISO 50 lately and loving it (although I had never used it before), and wondered --other than for capturing fast movement or really low light situations -- what the advantage/benefit of the high ISO was.

Hey Beth, great question. It's funny you should ask this, because I was just thinking about ISO yesterday as I was posting all these pictures and noticing the same thing.

It is an automatic camera setting. Especially back when these shots were taken and the camera was newer to me.

I do like to shoot at higher ISO's though, in general, because I have shaky hands and it gives me a bit faster shutter speed.

But I am going to experiment with lower ISO's! (Especially with my zoom lens. The 50 mm is already so fast and captures a wicked amount of light.)

(For the first few months with this camera -- and two lenses -- I have stayed almost entirely in aperture priority mode. This has really helped me get to know the camera and the Dof for the lenses.

Oh, and work on composition, of course.)

I would think that the high ISO would help with a zoom lens, since zooms tend to magnify movement. One thing that has been helpful (while simultaneously being a pain in the butt) has been taking my photos on a tripod...in school every photo has to be taken on a tripod. It has allowed me to use low ISO and big ol' long shutter speeds...really nice for landscapes in low light. The tones come out really nice (white whites and black blacks) and the lines are so crisp. But.... it is a pain.
